Trademark Symbols
IBACTP may use the following symbols:
Registered Trademark Symbol: ®
The ® symbol indicates that a mark is registered in one or more applicable jurisdictions.
The ® symbol should be used only with marks for which IBACTP has confirmed an applicable registration and only in connection with the goods or services covered by that registration.
A pending application, state registration, company registration, domain-name registration, or unregistered claim does not automatically authorize use of the federal registration symbol in the United States.
Trademark Symbol: ™
The ™ symbol may be used to identify a word, phrase, logo, program name, or other designation claimed as a trademark, whether or not it is federally registered.
Service Mark Symbol: SM
The SM symbol may be used for a mark identifying services, whether or not the mark is federally registered.
The symbol used with an IBACTP Mark may vary according to:
- Registration status;
- Jurisdiction;
- Goods or services;
- Publication format;
- Brand guidelines; and
- Legal advice.
An omitted symbol does not mean that IBACTP has waived ownership or other rights in a mark.
IBACTP Certification Marks
IBACTP certification names, abbreviations, seals, and badges may function as certification marks or credential identifiers.
A certification mark indicates that an individual has satisfied defined requirements established by the certifying organization. Depending on the certification, these requirements may include:
- Eligibility;
- Education;
- Professional experience;
- Training;
- Examination;
- Applied assessment;
- Capstone completion;
- Ethical commitments;
- Continuing professional development; and
- Renewal.
An IBACTP certification does not mean that the credential holder is:
- An employee of IBACTP;
- An agent of IBACTP;
- A legal representative of IBACTP;
- Licensed by a government;
- Guaranteed to perform at a particular level;
- Authorized to speak for IBACTP; or
- Endorsed for every product, service, opinion, or professional activity.
Examples of IBACTP Credential Marks
IBACTP’s credential portfolio may include professional and advanced management certifications.
Examples may include:
- Certified Data Science Professional (CDSP);
- Certified Data Science Manager (CDSM);
- Certified Digital Forensics Professional (CDFOP);
- Certified Digital Forensics Manager (CDFOM); and
- Other certification names and abbreviations published in the official IBACTP certification catalog.
The appearance of a certification title in this Notice does not, by itself, represent that the title is federally registered in every jurisdiction.
Registration symbols must be used only when supported by IBACTP’s verified trademark records.
The official certification catalog and current IBACTP brand guidance should be consulted before publishing a certification name or symbol.
No Implied License
Except as expressly permitted by this Notice or a written agreement, no license or right is granted to use an IBACTP Mark.
Viewing an IBACTP website, downloading a brochure, registering for training, taking an examination, earning a credential, entering a partnership, or linking to an IBACTP webpage does not grant unrestricted trademark rights.
All rights not expressly granted are reserved by IBACTP.
Authorized Use by Credential Holders
An individual who has earned an active IBACTP certification may use the applicable certification title and abbreviation to accurately describe their credential status.
For example, an active credential holder may use a certification:
- After their name;
- In a professional biography;
- On a résumé;
- On a curriculum vitae;
- In an email signature;
- On a professional networking profile;
- On a business card;
- In an employer directory;
- On a personal professional website; or
- In a factual description of qualifications.
Use is permitted only while the credential remains active and in good standing.
Required Credential-Holder Use
Credential holders must:
- Use the official certification title;
- Use the correct certification abbreviation;
- Accurately state credential status;
- Follow current brand guidelines;
- Use only official badge files;
- Preserve badge proportions and design;
- Link digital badges to an authorized verification record where required;
- Stop representing an inactive credential as current;
- Comply with the IBACTP Code of Ethics; and
- Correct misleading uses when notified.
An appropriate credential reference may state:
Jordan Smith, Certified Digital Forensics Professional (CDFOP)
or:
Jordan Smith holds the Certified Digital Forensics Professional credential issued by IBACTP.
Where a mark is registered and IBACTP’s brand guidelines require it, the appropriate registration symbol may be used on the first prominent reference.
Prohibited Credential-Holder Use
Credential holders must not:
- Claim a certification they have not earned;
- Use a credential before it is officially issued;
- Use another person’s credential;
- Transfer a credential;
- Alter a credential title;
- Invent an unofficial abbreviation;
- Misstate certification status;
- Present an expired certification as active;
- Use a suspended or revoked credential;
- Remove an expiration date when its omission is misleading;
- Alter a digital badge;
- Create a competing badge;
- Place an IBACTP logo inside another logo;
- Suggest employment by IBACTP;
- Suggest authority to bind IBACTP;
- Imply government licensure;
- Guarantee employment or professional results;
- Imply that IBACTP endorses a product or service;
- Use a credential to support unlawful or unethical conduct; or
- Use an IBACTP Mark in a deceptive advertisement.
Expired, Suspended, or Revoked Credentials
A credential holder must stop representing a credential as active when it:
- Expires;
- Is suspended;
- Is revoked;
- Is voluntarily surrendered;
- Is invalidated;
- Is replaced; or
- Is otherwise designated inactive.
A former credential holder may refer to historical certification only if the reference is accurate, not misleading, and clearly identifies the prior status.
For example:
Held the CDFOP credential from 2026 through 2029.
A former credential holder must not continue displaying an active-status badge or use a designation after their name in a manner suggesting current certification.
IBACTP may require removal or correction of outdated credential claims.
Digital Badges and Certificates
Official digital badges and certificates remain subject to IBACTP’s intellectual-property rights.
Credential holders receive a limited, revocable, nonexclusive, nontransferable permission to display an official badge associated with an active credential.
Credential holders must not:
- Change badge colors;
- Change wording;
- Crop the badge improperly;
- Stretch or distort the badge;
- Remove ownership notices;
- Add another organization’s mark inside the badge;
- Use a badge for a different certification;
- Reproduce a badge for another person;
- Sell or sublicense a badge;
- Use a badge after credential expiration; or
- create a confusingly similar badge.
IBACTP may use verification links, metadata, digital signatures, serial numbers, or other controls to protect credential authenticity.
Use by Employers
An employer may accurately identify an employee as an IBACTP credential holder if:
- The employee has authorized the use where required;
- The credential is valid;
- The official title is used;
- The employer does not imply organizational certification unless separately granted;
- The employer does not suggest endorsement by IBACTP; and
- The reference is not misleading.
An individual employee’s certification does not mean that the employer, department, product, service, or entire workforce is certified by IBACTP.
An employer may not place an individual credential badge on a company homepage in a manner suggesting that the company itself holds the credential.
Use by Universities and Educational Institutions
A university, college, or educational institution may refer to IBACTP certifications for factual educational purposes.
Permitted references may include:
- Preparing students for an IBACTP certification;
- Aligning course content with published competency domains;
- Offering an approved certification-preparation program;
- Reporting the number of participating students; or
- Identifying an authorized relationship.
The institution must not state or imply that:
- IBACTP accredits the institution, unless expressly authorized;
- IBACTP approves an academic degree, unless expressly authorized;
- Every graduate is certified;
- A course guarantees certification;
- The institution owns an IBACTP credential; or
- IBACTP endorses the institution generally.
Use of an IBACTP logo or partner designation requires written authorization.
Use by Authorized Training Partners
An organization may describe itself as an IBACTP Authorized Training Partner only while it has a current written agreement or authorization from IBACTP.
Authorized training partners must:
- Use the exact approved designation;
- Follow IBACTP brand guidelines;
- Use approved logos and artwork;
- Accurately describe their authority;
- Avoid implying ownership of IBACTP certifications;
- Avoid guaranteeing examination success;
- Avoid representing themselves as IBACTP headquarters;
- Distinguish partner services from IBACTP services;
- Remove outdated materials;
- Cooperate with brand-compliance reviews; and
- Stop using partner marks when authorization ends.
Partner authorization is:
- Limited;
- Nonexclusive;
- Nontransferable;
- Revocable;
- Subject to the partner agreement; and
- Restricted to the approved territory, program, and period.
Prohibited Partner Representations
A training provider or partner must not:
- Describe itself as IBACTP unless expressly authorized;
- Use “official” in a misleading manner;
- Register an entity name containing IBACTP;
- Register an IBACTP certification name as its own mark;
- Create a confusingly similar certification;
- Issue an IBACTP certificate independently;
- Change certification requirements;
- Alter official course or examination names;
- Claim guaranteed certification;
- Sell confidential examination content;
- Misrepresent examination fees;
- Combine an IBACTP badge with an unrelated credential;
- Use a credential logo as a corporate logo; or
- Continue using partner branding after termination.
Nominative and Factual References
A person or organization may make a limited factual reference to IBACTP or an IBACTP certification when reasonably necessary to identify the organization, credential, product, or service being discussed.
A factual reference should:
- Use only the amount of the mark reasonably necessary;
- Avoid using the IBACTP logo unless authorized;
- Avoid suggesting sponsorship or endorsement;
- Accurately describe the relationship;
- Use the official spelling;
- Distinguish the referring party’s services from IBACTP services; and
- Include a clarification when confusion is reasonably likely.
An appropriate statement may be:
This independent study course is designed to help participants prepare for the CDFOP examination. It is not endorsed, sponsored, or delivered by IBACTP.
Whether a particular use is legally permitted depends on the facts, jurisdiction, and applicable law. This Notice does not provide legal advice.
Editorial and Media Use
Journalists, researchers, authors, and commentators may use the IBACTP name in accurate reporting, analysis, criticism, or commentary.
Editorial use must not:
- Create false endorsement;
- Misrepresent IBACTP’s position;
- Falsely attribute a statement;
- Present modified branding as official;
- Disclose confidential examination content; or
- Use a logo more prominently than necessary to identify the subject.
Requests for high-resolution logos, interviews, quotations, or official statements should be directed to admin@ibactp.org.
Publications and Academic Works
Authors may refer to IBACTP and its certifications in books, articles, reports, presentations, dissertations, and educational materials if the reference is accurate and does not imply endorsement.
A publication title should not use an IBACTP Mark in a manner likely to suggest that the publication is official.
An independent publication should include a disclaimer such as:
This publication is independently produced and is not sponsored, endorsed, or approved by the International Board of AI, Cybersecurity & Technology Professionals.
Publication of confidential examination questions, reconstructed questions, answer keys, or protected assessment content is prohibited.
Comparative Advertising
A third party may make a truthful and legally permissible comparison involving IBACTP or an IBACTP certification.
Comparisons must be:
- Accurate;
- Current;
- Objective;
- Verifiable;
- Fairly presented;
- Based on comparable criteria; and
- Free from misleading implications.
A comparison must not:
- Misstate certification requirements;
- Misrepresent fees;

- Suggest endorsement;
- Disparage IBACTP through false statements;
- Copy protected content; or
- Use an IBACTP logo without permission.
Domain Names and Website Addresses
You must not register, use, purchase, sell, or control a domain name that:
- Contains IBACTP;
- Contains an IBACTP certification name;
- Contains a confusing misspelling;
- Suggests official certification status;
- Suggests operation by IBACTP; or
- Is likely to confuse users about sponsorship, ownership, or affiliation.
Examples of potentially prohibited uses include domains combining an IBACTP Mark with terms such as:
- Official;
- Certification;
- Exam;
- Training;
- Institute;
- Academy;
- Board;
- Global;
- Register; or
- Verify.
An authorized partner may use a domain containing an IBACTP Mark only when expressly permitted in writing.
Social-Media Accounts and Usernames
You must not create or operate a social-media account, username, group, channel, or page that:
- Uses IBACTP as the account identity;
- Uses an IBACTP logo as the profile image without authorization;
- Claims to be an official IBACTP account;
- Suggests certification authority;
- Distributes examination content;
- Misrepresents a partner relationship; or
- Creates a likelihood of confusion.
Fan, study, or discussion groups must clearly state that they are independent and unofficial.
An appropriate disclaimer may state:
Independent discussion group. Not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by IBACTP.
Company Names, Product Names, and Services
An IBACTP Mark may not be incorporated into:

- Product name;
- Service name;
- Application name;
- Course-provider name;
- Software title;
- Consulting package;
- Event title;
- Certification name; or

without prior written authorization.
A credential holder may use their certification designation to describe personal qualifications, but may not use the designation as the name of a separate certification business or product.
Search Advertising and Keywords
You must not purchase, use, or target IBACTP Marks as advertising keywords in a manner that:
- Misleads users;
- Diverts users through false affiliation;
- Promotes counterfeit credentials;
- Advertises unauthorized examination materials;
- Suggests official status;
- Creates confusion regarding the source of services; or
- Violates an applicable partner agreement.
Authorized partners must comply with any advertising and keyword requirements issued by IBACTP.

- Uses accurate text;
- Does not imply endorsement;
- Does not frame the IBACTP website misleadingly;
- Does not reproduce protected content;
- Does not bypass security;
- Does not use an official logo without permission; and
- Does not appear on an unlawful or deceptive website.
IBACTP may request removal of a link that is misleading, harmful, or inconsistent with these requirements.

IBACTP logos may not be used without prior written authorization, except where an official credential badge or partner asset has been issued for a specific authorized use.
Authorized users must:
- Use the supplied artwork;
- Preserve colors;

- Use an approved background;
- Avoid distortion;
- Avoid animation unless approved;

An IBACTP Mark must not be:
- Abbreviated incorrectly;
- Translated without permission;
- Pluralized incorrectly;
- Made possessive when inappropriate;
- Hyphenated differently;
- Rearranged;

- Modified to create a derivative mark.
Certification abbreviations should appear exactly as published by IBACTP.
Proper Trademark Attribution
Where appropriate, publications using IBACTP Marks should include an attribution statement.
A general attribution may state:
IBACTP®, the IBACTP logo, and identified IBACTP certification names and badges are trademarks, service marks, or certification marks of the International Board of AI, Cybersecurity & Technology Professionals. Other names and marks belong to their respective owners.
Where only specific marks are used, the attribution may identify those marks individually.
Use of an attribution statement does not create permission for an otherwise unauthorized use.
Use of the ® Symbol
The ® symbol must not be added to an IBACTP Mark unless IBACTP has confirmed that:
- The mark is registered;
- The registration is active;
- The symbol is appropriate in the relevant jurisdiction;
- The use relates to covered goods or services; and
- Current brand guidance permits the symbol.
Authorized users should not independently determine registration status.
If uncertain, request guidance from admin@ibactp.org.
International Use
Trademark rights vary by country.
A mark registered in one jurisdiction may not be registered in another. Symbols, attribution language, translations, and authorized uses may therefore differ by location.
International partners and credential holders must:
- Follow local law;
- Follow IBACTP instructions;
- Avoid unauthorized translations;
- Avoid local registration of IBACTP Marks;
- Avoid government filings claiming ownership;
- Notify IBACTP of local misuse; and

No partner, instructor, candidate, or credential holder may register an IBACTP Mark in any country.

- Trade name;
- Domain name;
- Social-media username;
- Mobile application name; or

Any unauthorized application or registration may violate IBACTP’s rights and applicable agreements.
Where legally permitted, an unauthorized applicant may be required to withdraw, cancel, assign, or transfer the application or registration to IBACTP.
No Endorsement
Reference to IBACTP does not mean that IBACTP endorses:
- A company;

- Book;
- Course;
- Software product;
- Consulting service;
- Conference;
- Website;

Only an authorized written statement from IBACTP may create an endorsement.
Holding an IBACTP certification does not authorize the credential holder to endorse products or services on behalf of IBACTP.

- Advertising an IBACTP certification;
- Purchasing training;
- Referring candidates;
- Sponsoring participants;
